Back Pain Treatment in Bath
Back pain can affect your movement, sleep, work and everyday life.
Charlie assesses and treats both acute and persistent back pain, taking time to understand your symptoms, what may be contributing to them and what you want to get back to doing..
Understanding Back Pain
Back pain can affect different parts of the spine and can range from a persistent ache or stiffness to sharper pain that makes particular movements difficult.
Lower back pain is especially common, but pain can also affect the middle or upper back.
You might notice symptoms when sitting for long periods, standing, walking, bending, lifting, exercising, getting out of bed or changing position. Some people experience a sudden episode of back pain, while for others it gradually develops or keeps returning.
What causes back pain?
Back pain can be influenced by joints, muscles and other structures in and around the spine.
Your work, activity levels, previous episodes, movement patterns and day-to-day demands can also influence how your back feels.
Charlie looks at your symptoms, movement, activity and the wider factors contributing to your back pain.
Assessment and Treatment
At your first appointment, Charlie will take a detailed history of your back pain and how it is affecting you.
He will assess your movement and can use orthopaedic, neurological and physical tests to help identify what is contributing to the problem.
Charlie will explain his findings and diagnosis before discussing your treatment plan.
What can back pain treatment involve?
Treatment is personalised to your assessment and can include:
• Spinal or joint manipulation
• Mobilisation techniques
• Soft tissue treatment
• Dry needling
• Personalised home exercises
• Gym-based rehabilitation
• Advice on movement and everyday activity
Charlie combines hands-on treatment with exercise and practical advice to reduce pain, improve movement and help you return to the activities that matter to you.
The aim is to address your current symptoms and the factors that may be contributing to the problem.
Back pain and sciatica can overlap, but they are not the same thing. If your symptoms include pain, tingling, numbness or other symptoms extending into the buttock or leg, our Sciatica page explains this in more detail.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can chiropractic treatment help lower back pain?
Yes.
Lower back pain is one of the musculoskeletal problems chiropractors commonly assess and treat. Charlie will assess how your lower back is moving, what is aggravating your symptoms and the wider factors contributing to the problem before building your treatment plan.
Should I stretch or exercise if I have back pain?
Movement and exercise are often an important part of managing back pain, but the right exercises depend on your symptoms and what Charlie finds during your assessment. You may be given specific movements, strengthening exercises or gym-based rehabilitation tailored to your needs.
Can back pain affect sitting, walking or lifting?
Yes.
Back pain can become more noticeable during particular positions or activities, including sitting at a desk, walking, bending and lifting. Understanding which movements trigger or ease your symptoms helps Charlie identify what needs to be addressed in your treatment and rehabilitation.
What if my back pain keeps coming back?
Recurring back pain is common.
Charlie looks beyond the immediate flare-up and considers movement, strength, activity and other factors that may be contributing to repeated episodes. Treatment can then combine hands-on care with exercise and advice designed around those findings.
