How Many Chiropractic Treatments Will I Need to Get Better?
The honest answer?
How long is a piece of string? 🧵
There isn’t a set number of treatments that every patient needs. Every person is different, and your care should reflect that.
Why does it vary from person to person?
Even when two people have similar symptoms, the factors contributing to their problem can be completely different.
When we assess you, we look at your individual presentation, including your symptoms, how long they’ve been present, your goals, your lifestyle and the factors that may be contributing to your complaint.
This means every patient is treated differently.
For example, someone with a recent episode of back pain may require a very different approach to someone who has been experiencing persistent symptoms for several months. Likewise, someone whose symptoms are influenced by their work, training, activity levels or other lifestyle factors may need a different management plan.
So, how do you know how many appointments I need?
Following your initial assessment, we’ll discuss what we think is appropriate based on your individual presentation and the contributing factors we identify.
For some acute problems, you may notice an improvement after your first appointment. Depending on your symptoms and how you respond, we may recommend more frequent appointments initially and then reduce the frequency as you improve.
For longer-standing or more complex problems, progress may take more time.
The important thing is that we regularly reassess your progress rather than simply following a predetermined treatment plan.
Do I have to buy a treatment package?
No.
At Bath Chiropractic Clinic, we don't ask patients to pay upfront for treatment packages.
We may give you a rough estimate of how many appointments we think may be appropriate, but this isn't a fixed prescription.
Your care should be based on how you are progressing and what you need, rather than how many appointments you have already paid for.
What happens if I'm not responding to care?
Your progress will be regularly monitored and reassessed throughout your care. We’ll look at how your symptoms are changing and whether you’re responding as we would expect based on your individual presentation.
If you’re not making the progress we would expect, we’ll take the time to reassess what’s going on and consider whether we need to change our approach.
This may involve modifying your treatment, looking more closely at the factors contributing to your symptoms, or considering whether further assessment or investigation is appropriate.
If we feel another healthcare professional would be better placed to help, we’ll discuss this with you and, where appropriate, can refer or communicate with local GPs and private hospitals.
The bottom line
There is no magic number of chiropractic treatments that everyone needs.
Every patient is different. Every presentation is different. And the factors contributing to your complaint are different.
That's why we take the time to assess you properly, understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and tailor your care accordingly.
